Ceramic Sculpture
Other Figures
I
draw
my
inspiration
from
the
human
figure.
More
accurately,
from
the
human
condition
and
what
the
figure
suggests
about
ideas,
thoughts
and
feelings.
I
love
ancient
sculpture
such
as
the
Cycladic
figures
(4500-2400
BC)
from
ancient
Greece.
Although
we
can
only
look
at
these
sculptures
with
modern
eyes,
they
seem
to
have
a
timelessness
about
them
that
reaches
out
and
touches
us
across
the
centuries.
My
sculptures
create
this
feeling
of
timelessness
and
invoke
a
mood,
a
feeling,
and,
most
importantly,
a
questioning
in
the
mind
of
the
observer,
not
in
a
patronizing
way,
but
as
a
communication.
Both
Greek
and
Norse
mythology
are
sources
of
inspiration.
There
is
a
subtle
exploration
of
character,
with
elements
of
humour,
philosophical
concepts
and
emotions.
For
me,
Art
is
about
communication, a journey you can take part in, or not, as you choose.
Maybe
it
is
all
a
search
for
understanding,
but
I
always
offer
a
sense
of
peace,
of
rest
and,
most
importantly,
of
optimism.
